UX and Cultural Heritage: Designing Experiences for Cultural Spaces
January 18–29, 2027
Where cultural heritage meets human-centered design. This immersive two-week program at POLI.design – Politecnico di Milano, Bovisa Campus, is one of the few in Europe to bring museology, heritage studies, and UX methodology into direct dialogue, training a new profile: designers who can turn cultural narratives into engaging, accessible visitor experiences.
The program moves along two core themes. The first is Heritage Interpretation & Cultural Institutions: how heritage institutions are shifting from preservation to participation, through storytelling strategies, digital conservation methods, and accessible visitor engagement. The second is UX & Interaction Design for Cultural Heritage: how user-centered design, multisensory and immersive experiences, gamification, and digital accessibility transform how visitors interact with and interpret cultural content.
Students learn to reinterpret cultural heritage through digital tools, interaction design, and UX methodologies, then apply that thinking directly to real heritage sites and institutions. The program combines expert lectures from Politecnico di Milano faculty, hands-on workshops, and guided field visits to leading cultural institutions, with academic coordinators and tutors supporting participants throughout. Teams develop original prototypes to enhance visitor engagement and interpretation, culminating in a final presentation — a strong portfolio piece for future design or heritage roles.
